History
West Mercia Beagle Club was first registered on the 16th November 1973. The
Patrons at that time were Group Captain AG and Mrs C Sutton, President was Mr R
E Walker B.Vet.Med.MRCUS and the Vice President was Lady Wecchter. Mr R White
was Master of Hounds and Mr J Kendrick. The Chairman was MR F E B McIllrath
M.Inst.N, Honorary Secretary was Mr A J Miles and Honorary Treasurer was Mrs A
Wright.
The first show was held on Sunday 13th October 1974, an open show judged by Mrs
Rosemary Spafford with an entry of 106 Beagles making 240. The show was held at
Wolverly near Kidderminster. The first Championship show was held on Saturday
9th December 1978 and was judged by Group Captain A G Sutton OBE with an entry
of 166 Beagles making 240 and this show was held at the Leisure Centre, Redditch.
In the early days the club had a successful working section and held regular
club matches. Today the club holds an open show in March and a championship
show in November.
